Higher Education Research Conference

During November 2007, a group of staff from across the Consortium involved with Higher Education came together to investigate practices around research and scholarly activity. In a particularly useful session, each college presented an overview of its research interests and some of the ongoing and past research activity.

They went on to investigate the best mechanism for the most useful collaboration discussing potential areas such as:

  • Joint projects – areas where expertise could be combined to produce good projects
  • A periodic conference where institutions can mull over independently or jointly conducted research
  • Joint bids for research money – sources and mechanisms to pursue to make this most efficient
  • Potential contacts and collaborators who would joint bids for research contracts
  • Joint staff development in research

One particularly useful outcome was a proposal for a Sports Conference held once a year at each College on a rotational basis. This conference is to provide higher education students at all Colleges an opportunity to present their research projects (orally and in poster format) to peers, staff and guests involved in the field of sport and exercise science.
